The possibilities of virtual reality allow us to save destroyed cultural monuments from oblivion. A workshop and a panel discussion held at House of Electronic Arts Basel and organised by Digital Brainstorming will be devoted to the topic. Experts from Germany and abroad will present exemplary projects and discuss the potential of the new possibilities. The events are open to the general public and will be held in English. The occasion is also the book launch of the current volume of the series Edition Digital Culture, which is dedicated to the topic of Virtual Reality.

IXDM researcher Christine Schranz will present the interactive web project A Journey to Palmyra.

Further speakers include Brendan Cormier (Curator Victoria & Albert Museum London) on Remix – Artistic Appropriation of Cultural Heritage, Patrick M. Michel (Archaeologist, University of Lausanne) on VR Reconstruction of the Baalschamin Temple in Palmyra, Nora Al-Badri (artist, Zurich and Berlin) on The Nefertiti Hack of Berlin, and Barry Threw (Coordinator New Palmyra Project, San Francisco) on The #newpalmyra Project as an Open Platform for Artists and Scientists.
