Unmaking: 5 Anxieties
For this year’s edition of transmediale – festival for art and digital culture in Berlin the Critical Media Lab is presenting a discussion session on the theme of Unmaking: a critical examination of the current state of maker culture, its exhaustion and exploitation. Together with the participants we aim to foster a discussion on the limits and blind spots of the maker attitude and try to develop alternative framings for making and ways of resisting certain imperatives of creativity.
In the spirit of this year’s festival theme conversation piece together with the Research Institute for Arts and Technology (RIAT) in Vienna we conceived an Unmaking Kit – a limited edition publication in card deck format intended to trigger a conversation at the festival. For the discussion session on the last day of the week we will also be joined by Tom Jenkins, theorist, designer, and PhD researcher at Georgia Tech.
Sunday, February 7th / 13.00–15.00
Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin

Registration for the event is needed
The Unmaking Kits will be available in the lower passage of HKW during the opening night and during the festival days before and after the keynotes.
