Tokyo Earth Observatory Array Workshop

2日間のワークショップでは、「地球観測配列 Earth Observatory Array」(EOA)について話し合い、EOA装置を設計・構築する ことを目的にしています。 このワークショップは、どのように人間の技術が地球に刻まれてきたのかを調査する国際 プロジェクト「シフト レジスタ Shift Register」の活動の一環です。https://backup2020.ixdm.ch/portfolio/shift-register/ (プロジェクト ウェブサイト）

In this 2-day workshop we will discuss, design and build an ‘Earth Observatory Array’ (EOA) as part of an international project, Shift Register, to investigate how human technology has marked the earth.

人間が創り出したメディア、技術および社会基盤となる活動が、どのように地球に「配列・設置」されてきたのかを具体化し記録 することにより、それぞれのEOAを設計します。
・大気⇄地球　劣化、溶解（大気中の物質の地球への影響）
・地球⇄地 球　沈殿物、結晶化、放射線
・宇宙⇄地球　ミューオンとオゾンの検出
・架空の分野　地球の活動や状態の推論的測定

Each EOA is designed to materialise and register how human media, technological and infrastructural activities have marked the earth in, for example:
atmospheric ‹―› earth studies, including deterioration and dissolution
earth ‹―› earth studies, including radiation and burial
cosmos ‹―› earth studies, including muon and ozone detection
imaginary studies, including the earth’s speculative calibration

東京での観測配列は、decay（劣化、風化と放射性崩壊 etc）をテーマとし、詩的で実用的な装置となる予定です。 ワークショップでは、地球 科学、科学技術、日本特有のもの、および架空の方法を用いて、decayのサイクルを記録する EOA装置を設計・製作します。

The Tokyo Array will be a poetic and practical device themed around decay and in the workshop we will build EOA elements that register decay cycles using techniques borrowed from the earth-sciences, technology, the vernacular and the imaginary.

参加者は、岩石から特定の結晶を取り出す、オートラジオグラフィーやGPS／GISを使用する、型取りや埋め込みなどを行うな ど、いくつかの方法を用いて実験を行います。そして、地球での古代と現代技術の変調の合流点を示すであろう東京EOAサイ トへ実際に足を運びます。

We will experiment with processes such as crystallization, autoradiography, GPS/GIS, casting and embedding and make a field trip for the potential siting of the Tokyo EOA to mark confluences between ancient and contemporary technological modulations of the earth.

ワークショップでは、ごく微量の、人体には影響を及ぼさないレベルの放射性物質が発生します。 経験不問　使用言語：英語、日本語

We will be working with very low and safe levels of radiation. No experience is required. Workshop language: English and Japanese.
