The next session of the Critical Media Lab Colloquium will take place, Wednesday, 20. May 2015 at the Critical Media Lab (D 3.05) from 9:15 to 10:45 AM.

For the sixth session of this term’s Critical Media Lab colloquium series — Rendering Research — we host a session with Christiane Heibach on The Aesthetics of the Diffuse:

“The Aesthetics of the Diffuse” will be discussed on the basis of three different texts. Every text emphasizes a different aspect of the topic: Sandra Mitchell asks how the (diffuse) phenomenon of emergence can be grasped and how it changes the methodologies of the natural sciences; the philospher and founder of the “New Phenomenology” Hermann Schmitz thinks about how and in which way atmosphere and bodily experience have to be approached. And finally Michel Serres tries to find an adequate (poetic) way to grasp the complexity of sensory experience – his text can also be discussed under the perspective of (re)presenting the diffuse.

Sandra Mitchell (2008), Komplexitäten – Warum wir erst anfangen, die Welt zu verstehen

Hermann Schmitz, Rudolf Owen Müllan, Jan Slaby (2011), Emotions outside the box – the new phenomenology of feeling and corporeality

Michel Serres (1998), Die Fünf Sinne
