Joseph Popper – Junior Researcher
Joseph Popper is an artist and designer from London, UK. He is a PhD candidate at the European Centre for Art, Design and Media based research (ECAM) and researcher at the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures. He has an interdisciplinary background in art and design, graduating with an MA in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art in 2012.
His current research examines the imagining of outer space and the shaping of outer space imaginaries. His project responds to the premise that outer space is in need of re-imagining, exploring the potential of imagery and fiction for disrupting the master narratives and aesthetics which inform contemporary imaginations and impact upon Earth-Space relations.
Joseph works across film, installation and photography. The works are exhibited internationally, including La Gaîté Lyrique (Paris), Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead), La Panacée Centre (Montpellier) and the Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein).
He regularly teaches and leads workshops at various art & design schools, including the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths University in London and Haute école d’art et de design (HEAD) in Geneva.
