What do you do when you are disoriented, when the compass of your phone goes haywire? You reset it. The procedure depends on the situation and device, but you always have to stay calm and carefully follow instructions if you want the compass to capture signals again.

As the finale of their GLOBALE program, ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe presents the exhibition Reset Modernity!, curated by Bruno Latour and the team of AIME (An Inquiry Into Modes of Existence). In form of a Gedankenausstellung, a thought experiment, the show offers a set of disorienting/reorienting procedures to recalibrate the very notion of Modernity. Part of the exhibition are the modules Territorial Agency: Museum of Oil and Armin Linke: The Appearance of That Which Can not be Seen.

A team around the Critical Media Lab Basel was heavily involved in design research and concept development for the exhibition and supported the workshop sessions during the opening symposium Next Society – Facing Gaia.
