Deconstructed denotations. Ambiguous and ensouled artifacts.

The next session of the Critical Media Lab Colloquium will take place, Wednesday the 5th of November at the Critical Media Lab (D 3.05) from 4:15 to 5:45 PM.

For the fourth session of our first Critical Media Lab colloquium series — What Constitutes Critique? — we host a session with Judith Dörrenbächer. Judith is a design researcher working at Hochschule Niederrhein. Currently she is dealing with topics like the agency of non-human beings, animism and fetishism in our alleged modern society and the correlation of human beings and technology.

This colloquium session she will present her examination about objects in exhibitions. Exhibits do not only represent meaning but have a life of their own. What kind of curatorial strategies exist, that deconstruct anthropocentric classification systems? Are curators or designers able to create auratic or even ensouled artifacts and what kind of power do these artifacts develop outside of museums?
